Severe Storms and Dangerous Heat Wave Heading to Baltimore This Week

Tuesday begins on a dreary note with early morning fog, drizzle, and showers, but conditions will improve by midday. Expect the skies to remain mostly cloudy into the afternoon with a noticeable uptick in warmth and humidity.
Highs will reach the upper 70s to around 80°F, significantly warmer than recent days. As a warm front continues to move northward, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could pop up between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Some of these storms may bring damaging winds or even a weak tornado, particularly in areas west and south of Baltimore.
Tonight, temperatures will remain warm and muggy, with lows settling in the low 70s.
Get ready to sweat! Wednesday and Thursday will usher in summer-like heat and humidity. Temperatures will climb to 90°F on Wednesday and reach the low 90s on Thursday. Combined with oppressive humidity, it will feel like the mid-to-upper 90s on Wednesday and 100° to 105° on Thursday.
Both afternoons bring the potential for strong to severe storms. Wednesday’s storm window is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with widespread thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. While most of the activity won’t be severe, it could still be disruptive.
Thursday, however, is a different story. Severe storms could hit after 3 p.m., bringing damaging winds, hail, intense lightning, and torrential rain through at least 9 p.m.
Relief arrives Friday with lower humidity, abundant sunshine, and highs in the upper 80s. A refreshing breeze will make it the most pleasant day of the week, just in time for the official start of summer at 7:41 p.m.
The weekend looks dry but hot. Whether you’re headed to AFRAM or enjoying other outdoor events, be sure to stay hydrated and wear light, breathable clothing. Highs will hit the low 90s Saturday and mid-90s Sunday, with heat index values pushing near 100°.
Looking ahead, dangerous heat is expected to start on Monday and may persist into next week.
Expect highs near 100°F and heat indices between 105°F and 110°F. Overnight lows in the upper 70s to low 80s will offer little relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses during what could be a prolonged and potentially dangerous heatwave.
