Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday night on Interstate 70 near Mount Airy, leaving a 20-year-old man dead.

Troopers responded just after midnight to a report of a shooting in the eastbound lanes of I-70 near Maryland Route 27. When officers arrived at the 600 block of Lakeview Drive, they found a pickup truck and the driver, identified as Eduardo Urrea of Silver Spring, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Urrea was driving with five other people in the truck when shots were fired from another vehicle traveling east on I-70. The group had just left an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds shortly before the incident. One passenger was evaluated at the scene but declined medical treatment. The remaining three passengers reported no injuries.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help. Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has dashcam footage from eastbound I-70 in Frederick County between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on Saturday is urged to contact police at 301-600-4150.

The investigation remains ongoing.
