Elon Musk Steps Down from Trump’s Government Efficiency Role
Elon Musk has concluded his 130-day tenure as head adviser to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a position he held within the Trump administration. Musk made the announcement on X, expressing gratitude to the president for the opportunity to contribute to reducing what he termed “wasteful spending” in the federal government.
Despite his mission to cut government expenditures, Musk’s work within DOGE was marked by controversy. His efforts led to significant staff reductions and agency restructuring, but critics argue that the savings were minimal and the disruptions substantial. Notably, Musk’s push for deep cuts in agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services was met with backlash.
Most recently, Musk criticized Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a major legislative initiative aimed at stimulating the economy. Musk argued that the bill would exacerbate the federal deficit, contradicting the administration’s fiscal goals.
