Mattel Honors Aaliyah With Custom Barbie Doll

Mattel honored Aaliyah with a custom Barbie doll just in time for her birthday! On January 16, what would have been Aaliyah’s 46th birthday, the brand announced the release of the “Barbie Signature Aaliyah 11.5” collectible doll. The doll was laced in her signature statement pants, top and leather look from the “One In A Million” music video. The doll was available for $55.99 as a pre-order through Mattel and Target however, it sold out within 30 minutes and Mattel hasn’t updated fans on a restock.
Mattel said,
“Barbie honors Aaliyah, the Princess of R&B with a Barbie doll in her likeness. Aaliyah helped redefine contemporary hip hop and R&B by combining soft, melodic vocals with powerful beats — a lyrical sound she dubbed ‘street to sweet.’ As a tribute to the influential superstar, Aaliyah Barbie doll wears an all-black outfit in homage to her hit ‘One in a Million’ music video. Doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity included. Doll cannot stand alone. Colors and decorations may vary.”
Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton said he was “blown away” when he saw the final doll and thinks his sister would approve of the edgy ensemble since her favorite color was “all black.”
