Like majority of the hit records today, Erica Banks’ “Buss It” took over TikTok and then took over our lives. The infamous challenge brought out supreme “twerkage” from people across the world. Now, the Texas artist has a plaque to show for it.
The RIAA announced that “Buss It” has officially become a certified gold record, moving half a million units since its May 2020 release. “STRAIGHT OUT DA MF MUD! FROM NOTHING,” Banks shared on Instagram. “Thank you everybody for streaming! Thank you DJ’s! Thank you everybody from @tiktok! Let’s f*ckin go! @sgtjafoo.”
Long live the “Buss It” challenge.
It was a joyous time of the internet when my timeline was flooded with those challenge videos. Nope, it wasn’t the twerking that left an impression. It was the confidence that users showed when getting into the challenge. I also loved how it unified the culture as people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and genders looking to have a great time on the internet.
