The drama continues on the latest episode of our favor over dramatic series Empire!
On tonight’s episode, Cookie (Taraji P.Henson) and Angelo Dubois (Taye Diggs) finally decide to give their relationship another shot. Cookie even finally gives Angelo the Cookies to consummate the relationship properly. There’s a catch though, Cookie has to meet Angelo’s mom Diana Dubois played by the iconic Phylicia Rashad at a fundraising dinner for him.
The meeting is set up but unfortunately she stands up Angelo and his mom after viewing Jamal’s “video museum” using old clips of Cookie from her childhood.The stroll down memory lane causes Cookie to lose it after it brings up old feelings of disappointment and regret. We learn through a series of flashbacks throughout the episode that Cookie’s dad kicked her out at a young age because of her being involved with Lucious. He eventually dies three days later and her sisters blamed her for the unwanted stress on his heart because Cookie who happens to be his favorite let him down.
To make up for the missed meeting Cookie pitches the idea to take Angelo and his mom out to dinner. Angelo agrees to the idea and insists that Cookie brings her sons along cause shes big on family. That plan also falls flat after all of the restaurants become suddenly booked. Cookie decides to have dinner at her house, she pulls out all the stops to impress Angelo’s mom. She has her sister Candace (Vivica A.Fox) giving her some dinner etiquette lessons and even refurnished her apartment for the dinner.

Of course this is Empire and things never go smoothly. Jamal is still battling PTSD is now using drugs given to him by his producer/lover D-Major and shows up extremely high and quite entertaining. Hakeem shows up with baby Bella and is at wit’s end because she won’t stop crying. Andre doesn’t even to bother to show and instead opts to impress his new boo Nessa by attending a memorial gathering for her big brother and bringing Freda Getz. To make matters even worse for Cookie, Lucious decides to crash the dinner with Anika.
On top of that, Diana is deathly allergic to the meal that was prepared. Totally embarrassed by her dysfunctional family Cookie decides to speak her mind. She points out the fact that her family is indeed messed up but she loves them as is. Her speech is followed by Jamal singing his new touching song “Mama” which pays tribute to Cookie and her struggle. The speech and song clearly impresses Diana who reveals that her family wasn’t any better. She also noticed the fur coats Cookie hid from her as well but nonetheless she was impressed by Cookie’s “fire”.
She did leave Cookie with one warning telling her “You just make sure that fire doesn’t burn my child”.
With everything square between his mom and Cookie, Angelo tells Cookie he’s coming back to “tuck her in” after he drops his mom home.

Lucious leaves with a very disappointed look on his face, back at the Lyon estate he stops and stares at Boo Boo Kitty who is getting ready for bed. Is he possibly getting feelings back for his old flame now? Hmmm we can’t wait to see what tricks is up Lucious sleeve in the next weeks episode.
