11. Tia Michele

Tia Michele Goodson was born and raised on the east side of Baltimore City. She attended Western Senior High School and graduated with numerous monetary awards and partial scholarships. One scholarship was from the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Through the sorority she received citations from the Comptroller, Mayor, and Governor of Maryland. She is an honors graduate of the prestigious Howard University in Washington, DC. At Howard she studied History and photography. She began her post college career as a Middle School Social Studies teacher in DC. After five years of service and feeling that 30 was ever-so near, she decided to pursue her dreams of working in documentary film. In 2010 she attended an intensive program in documentary film at George Washington University and so began her career as a freelancer.

Since then, Ms. Goodson has worked on numerous narrative projects but documentary is still near and dear to her heart. She is in the development stages of a documentary set in Rio de Janeiro and in pre-production on a series of short documentaries highlighting local non-profits and people with interesting stories.

In just a short two and a half years she has worked on seven feature films, thirteen commercials, three TV shows, five short films, and tons of music videos for local and signed artists. She is featured in the documentary DMV Truth: Indie Film Artists which has been nominated for Best Documentary and Director at the Hot Media International Film Festival this year. She currently has one short film in post production and another in pre-production.

She is most proud of her work as the 2nd Assistant Director on the film LUV directed by fellow Baltimore native Sheldon Candis and shot in Baltimore in 2011. the film stars the likes of Common and newcomer Michael Rainey Jr., Charles Dutton, Dennis Haysbert, Meagan Good, Michael Kenneth Williams, Russell Hornsby, and Anwan Glover. LUV went to the Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and just premiered in theaters on January 18th.

Since then, Ms. Goodson has worked with NFL Films, The Disney Channel, Adidas, Nike, and M&T Bank. In the months to come she will travel to Brazil to continue development on her documentary. She will also launch a t-shirt line bearing the name of her production company. Proceeds from sales will go towards her documentary efforts and the development of her youth documentary film program. Most recently Ms. Goodson served as the Travel/credentials coordinator for the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Balls and Children’s Concert.
