5. Jessica Boone

I was 15 years old when I had the love of my life, which is my son Collin Lee. Even though, having a child at the age of 15 could be considered a stigma, I see it as a blessing. Growing up, my family always instilled in me that in order to become successful you have to have an education. Most girls who had babies at my age did not finish high school so for me to be in my senior year of college on the the path to obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Journalism is nothing, but a blessing from God. Having a baby at a very young age was very stressful, but I kept pressing forward which led me to becoming the #1 Entreprenuer of the Year for Baltimore City in 2007. I also was a co-host to the Baltimore City Public School System’s tv show called “Teen Talk”. I later went on to have my own show called “You Can Do It” which show cased positive people in our community. I believe the best advice you can give someone is to share some of the experiences that you have had. Today I have an awesome job working for an organization called Women Accepting Responsibility where I go into Baltimore City Schools and teach a curriculum called B.A.R.T (Becoming A Responsible Teen) where I teach young adults how to protect themselves from contracting hiv/aids std’s and to not follow behind me and become a teen parent. There is such a stigma on teen pregnancy and it is time to shed light on the ones who don’t don’t succumbed to the hard task. I am am not perfect by along shot, but if I can prevent a Teen pregnancy by sharing my story than that’s what its all about. To the ones who are teen mothers it’s time for the community to come together and encourage them to never stop their dreams!!
