Sometimes being a teenager can be hard. There are so many peer pressures that can influence a child, for example drug or alcohol use. Peer Pressure can come from school, a child’s home, or environment of other peers. As a parent you want to protect your child from harm. If you are concerned about your child and feel like they are being easily influenced or involved in “experimenting”, here are some tips on how to prepare for a drug intervention with your teenager:

  • Make Observations- note changes in your teens usual behavior, appearance, personal habits, health, and school work.
  • Prepare Yourself For Your Teen’s Reaction
  • Set A Desired Outcome For Your Intervention
  • Recognize The Significance Of Addiction In Your Family
  • Understand The Serious Risk – think about how you are going to explain this to your  child in a way that will make him listen.

It is never to early to have the conversation about drug and alcohol use. It is important to address the risks and all information related, to help prevent risky behavior and bad decisions. A conversation will encourage the child to feel comfortable to tell the truth. The open communication is both positive and healthy.
