On December 4, 1969, Fred Hampton—21-year-old chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party—was assassinated by Chicago police officers working with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Hampton was a leading activist in Chicago who was shot and killed by city police in an early morning raid in 1969.
