This morning, I achieved something I’d been hoping to do for the first time this summer: my 7 mile run. It’s been difficult to get it going this running season because somewhere around the middle of May my mind became overloaded. With the pandemic and other things, one could understand that.

But it finally happened and I’ve felt accomplished all day. However, no matter how proud I may feel, it doesn’t hold a candle to the accomplishments of someone that I passed on my run this morning.

My route is typically from my house on the South East side of the city, through Harbor East toward Fells. I continued from there on to Target in Canton and then back to my house. When I got to the Wharf area there was a nurse coming out of her apartment, walking her dog. She looked like she was just getting off of her 12-hour shift. While running closer to her I couldn’t stop thinking about the idea that even after spending hours at work, fighting this virus and the crowded hospitals that it provides; her dog still needed to be walked.

As I jogged past her (I was struggling), I thanked her for her service to the community. After years of running (exaggerating), I returned back to my house and couldn’t shake the thought that these heroes are human too.

Despite handling the daily tasks to keep their world on its axis, they still devote most of their time to saving ours. Grateful is an understatement.

To the front line and essential workers-

I know it may seem as though many have forgotten about our fight or have become less vigilant, but we are grateful. To hear the endless stories of the hard decisions that have been made in emergency rooms and ICUs across the country; I can only imagine the stress. Given limited resources and still expected to do the impossible. I hope you don’t feel taken for granted and that you can feel the gratitude from some.

Or, to the teachers who were under immense pressure of being forced to return to the classroom. Though many area school systems have elected to start the year virtually, it’s still stressful to know that it took so long to make a decision that involves your well-being.

To all the public service men and women, thank you for the sacrifices that you have made over the last few months. Thank you for the selflessness that you continue to show as we wrestle with COVID-19.

We have no clue when this thing will be over but it’s comforting to know that we’ve got the best and the brightest caring for us in their own ways. God bless. If you need anything, connect through my Instagram.
