The American College of Cardiology released a study this week stating that sitting for long periods of time increases one’s risk of contracting heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, or early death.

The research shows that sitting for a long time could be just as bad as smoking.

“Smoking certainly is a major cardiovascular risk factor and sitting can be equivalent in many cases,” said Dr. David Coven, a cardiologist. “The fact of being sedentary causes factors to happen in the body that are very detrimental.”
