House Explosion Destroys Rosedale Home; Investigation Underway

Fire officials in Baltimore County are investigating an early morning explosion and fire that leveled a home in Rosedale on Tuesday.
Crews were called to the 8100 block of Callo Lane shortly after 2 a.m., where they found the house fully destroyed and debris still burning. The scene was littered with shattered glass, splintered wood, and rubble. Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control by around 4 a.m., according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the explosion. Department spokesperson Travis Francis Sr. confirmed there were no reported injuries, though a neighboring house sustained minor damage.
Neighbors reported hearing a loud blast followed by flames. One witness told WJZ the fire spread to the roof of a nearby home.
Baltimore County Fire Chief Joseph Dixon said investigators are working to confirm whether the home’s residents were out of town at the time. Because of the extent of the destruction, fire crews were unable to conduct a standard search of the property and are waiting on specialized equipment to safely sift through the debris.
“It’s important for us to make sure any hazards are secured,” Dixon said. “We’re going to remain vigilant and ensure the community’s safety.”
Baltimore Gas and Electric responded to the scene and cut off gas and electric service as a precaution. Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the explosion.
