Baltimore is enjoying a sunny start to the week, but the National Weather Service is warning that temperatures are on the rise. A ridge of high pressure is expected to keep the region warm and dry through Thursday, with daytime highs climbing into the upper 80s and even the low 90s by midweek. The real heat and humidity, however, will settle in by Thursday and into the weekend.

Today’s pleasant conditions are thanks to a weak area of high pressure that’s clearing skies and keeping humidity low. Temperatures tonight are expected to cool down into the 50s and 60s, offering a brief break before the warmer weather tightens its grip on the region.

By Thursday, the high-pressure system will begin to shift offshore, opening the door for rising humidity levels. Daytime highs will hover in the upper 80s and low 90s, creating hot and sticky conditions across the city. Friday brings a noticeable change, as moisture from the Gulf of Mexico surges north. This will increase the chances of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, so anyone with outdoor plans should stay weather-aware.

The weekend forecast points to more unsettled weather. A cold front is expected to move into the region and stall, leading to daily chances of showers and thunderstorms through early next week. Some storms could bring heavy rainfall, and with soils already saturated, localized flooding could become a concern.

Pilots can expect good visibility and VFR flying conditions through Thursday night, but showers and thunderstorms on Friday could disrupt flights. Boaters will also see generally calm conditions until Friday, when stronger winds could prompt a Small Craft Advisory, though confidence in that forecast remains low.

For residents near tidal areas, water levels may creep toward the action stage, but tidal anomalies are expected to gradually decline. As summer-like heat rolls in, Baltimoreans are urged to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and stay informed as storm chances increase later this week.
