Maryland’s Board of Education voted to mandate that school systems share when a student is convicted or accused of a serious or violent crime when transferring schools. This policy only addresses sharing reportable offenses related to direct student transfers in the Maryland public school system, and from Maryland public schools to private. This new mandate comes after A 17-year-old student was accused of murdering a man in Columbia, Maryland and was under juvenile supervision wearing an ankle monitor for a previous attempted murder conviction
Maryland’s state superintendent Dr. Carey Wright,
“We must be as clear and transparent as possible between and across school systems when it comes to sharing information about transfer students who may pose a threat to school communities,”
