Baltimore may have a chance to turn things around, after-all.

Today marks Day 1 for Baltimore’s new Deputy Mayor, Anthony Barksdale. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because from 2007 to 2012 he served as acting Police Commissioner. Barksdale is being described as “one of the smartest, and most knowledgable crime-fighting professionals that we can bring to the table,” according to Mayor Brandon Scott during a news release.

“His track record speaks for itself. He will act with the urgency to improve public safety for all of our residents, while continuing our progress on reforming BPD and and implement the consent decree,” said Scott.

Barksdale will oversee operations at the city’s public safety agencies: BPD, BFD and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement.
