HAMPTON — The crowning of Hampton University’s first white Miss HU on Friday caused an uproar on campus, which prompted the winner to write a letter to President Obama.
Miss HU Nikole Churchill, a senior nursing major at the Virginia Beach campus, wrote to invite Obama to speak on campus about racial tolerance.
Churchill is a Hawaiian who was selected from among 10 contestants in the pageant, which included an evening gown, swimsuit, and talent competitions. As the winner, she will continue on to the 2010 Miss Virginia pageant.
