Label Necklace and Baltimore non-profit DBCI are partnering to fundraise for the Beats Not Bullets program which teaches at-risk youth the fundamentals of songwriting, beat-making, music production, audio engineering, and music business.
They enable students to improve their reading and communication skills through concept building as well as the utilization of computers equipped with production and recording software.
Participants will create, share and record music created during the program through a range of enrichment activities including educational “talks” with industry professionals and hands-on experimentation.
Beats Not Bullets aims to enhance students’ understanding of the professional skill set needed to work in creative industries as well as expose them to a network of resources.
Due to the pandemic, the program can only accept half of its normal enrollment. To avoid turning away students, they’re asking for help to secure twice the amount studio space, staff and resources to provide a safe and socially distanced learning environment.
