There were numerous stories going around that Nike pulled all merchandise affiliated with Kobe Bryant on their online store. The alleged reason was to prevent people from reselling the merch for profit. I even went to the Nike site after hearing the rumors to see if all the talk was true and it seemed like it was because there was absolutely no Kobe merchandise. Well per a Nike rep the rumors are absolutely not true! Per Forbes a Nike rep actually told them it was because they sold out of Kobe Bryant merchandise.
Forbes reports,
- Sports industry advisor Matt Powell told Forbes that it is common for websites to delete items when they have no inventory, and that sales of Bryant’s shoes slowed after his retirement, meaning it was likely that stocks of his products were already low.
