According to Essence, the film about St. Clair will be developed for HBO films.
St. Clair was known as “Madame Queenie” and was famous for not only activism, but for building a criminal enterprise.
She fought off Italian mobsters who wanted to take over the business which is current to our lottery system.
Shadow and Act reports, “She was considered an activist in the black community, buying out newspaper ads to educate Harlem residents on their legal rights, voting rights and she called out police brutality against black people.”
The film will be based on the book “The World of Stephanie St. Clair: An Entrepreneur, Race Woman and Outlaw in the Early Twentieth Century Harlem,” by Shirley Stewart.
