Less than two months after the premiere of her third TV series, Tyra Banks has quit her daytime talk show, The FABLife.
The legendary model released a nice and tactful statement saying she was leaving to focus on her entrepreneurial endeavors:
“I will be devoting more time to my new, growing cosmetics company, TYRA Beauty, which is expanding faster than anticipated, as well as overseeing my company’s other entertainment ventures. I will, however, continue to support the growth and success of FABLife and greatly admire my fellow co-hosts and the talented production team behind the show.”
According to TMZ, the model may only be telling her version of the truth. “We’re told Tyra and one of the executive producers did not get along…She was particularly upset because she felt she had been double-crossed; she claimed show honchos promised to push her cosmetics line much harder than they did,” said the source.
While Tyra is also listed as one of the shows executive producers, her power may have been limited before her mysterious departure. “We’re told there was a staff meeting a week ago where execs said the show would be moving in a different direction,” added TMZ’s informant.
Another plausible theory is bad blood between Tyra and co-host Chrissy Teigen. Prior to the show even airing, the pair were forced to address rumors that they weren’t getting along.
The models were able to bond over their shared struggles with infertility, but Chrissy and husband John Legend have since become pregnant through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
We wonder if the attention that Chrissy’s getting over her growing bump was all too much for Tyra? Maybe, maybe not. It could just as likely be that Tyra just wasn’t that into it.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared that despite being at the height of her career with the success of her Emmy award-winning series, The Tyra Show, she was actually, “the most unhappy.”
With ratings for TheFABLife not being as high as similar shows like The Real or The Talk, the Harvard-educated beauty probably made a smart decision by jumping ship early. Hopefully she’ll use her newly gained free time to focus on starting her much desired family.
In the words of Tyra Banks from one of the most memorable episode of America’s Next Top Model, “we’re all rooting for you!”
