Sad news for the CBS Daytime viewing audiences as news is breaking that Jeanne Cooper,  known better as Catherine Chancellor, has passed away at the age of 84. Ms. Chancellor has been holding court on The Young And The Restless since 1973, and has seemingly always been a key figure on the show.  She wore big jewels, and fought both alcoholism and Jill Abbot with a serious ferocity.

Anybody with a big mama or mama who watched “the stories” while they were growing up, knows what we’re talking about! This lady was what used to be called a classy dame!

According to TMZ, her real life son, “L.A. Law” star Corbin Bernsen, tweeted this morning that she had passed away. She had fallen ill with an infection earlier this year after helping promote “Y&R’s” 40th anniversary.

Although Cooper debuted in “The Young And The Restless” in 1973, and was subsequently nominated for an astonishing 10 Daytime Emmy Awards, she did not actually win one until 2008, when took home the award for best lead actress.

We know there will never be another phenomenon like her on Y & R and her mere presence will be sorely missed. We are not sure how Genoa City will ever be able to get along without her! For all of the laughs, drama, action and empathy she shared with her audience we humbly say, thank you.

Our thoughts go out to her family, her friends, cast mates and fans at this difficult time.

We remember her best as most life long fans do, in one of her knock down drag out fights with Jill, like this one that we’ve posted below.
