Apparent 80 mph wind gusts takes off roofs on a number of homes early Wednesday, uprooting trees and causing power outages in the NE Baltimore Area.
The National Weather Service is working to confirm reports of a tornado touchdown in the 2200 block of Fleetwood Avenue, according to Baltimore City Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright.
Cartwright said the wind gusts were reported between 1:30 and 1:50 a.m. He said injuries were reported in the Dutch Village Townhome Community but said no fatalities had been reported.
Search and rescue teams, along with firefighters, were rescue operations on Fleetwood Avenue, and paramedics were assisting those who were hurt..
“I spoke with the National Weather Service, who verified that 80 mph winds impacted the northeast corridor of the city and Parkville in Baltimore County,” Cartwright said.
At least 20,000 BGE customers had lost power in the area.
The winds and rain were part of a strong line of storms moving through late Tuesday and early Wednesday
“There had to be a tornado in my neighborhood,” said a lady one in Parkville. “It sounded exactly like a train coming through. There is a lot of damage and power is out. This was probably the most scared I’ve ever been in my life.”
