Fort Worth Texas teenage mom Shantaniqua Scott was accused of engaging in a radical act of easing her life- by smothering her baby infant.

It was reported that the 17-year old Scott’s infant boy, a special needs child -was suffocated by Scott on over four occasions.  The child managed to survive for four months and was transferred from a Waco hospital to Cook Children’s Medical Center earlier this month.

He was treated for recurring, life-threatening gastroesophageal reflux and apnea.  The baby boy was staying in a video-monitored room when a code alarm sounded that indicated the boy’s vital signs were failing.

When hospital staffers viewed the surveillance video, they saw 17-year-old Scott pressing a blanket on the child’s face before placing her hand directly over his mouth and nose. Medical personnel were able to revive the infant and transfer him to pediatric intensive care.

When questioned by investigators,  Scott told investigators she didn’t want the kid anymore – and that she wanted to go back to living a carefree life without the burden of a sick child.  Scott has been charged with injury to a child/serious bodily injury, and is being held on $25,000 bond.  The charges constitute as a first degree felony.

The infant is still hospitalized, and expected to recover. Once released, he will be placed in foster care because DCF is reportedly having difficulty in finding an appropriate relative to place the infant with.
