John Crowder, the 17-year-old basketball player, was laid to rest Tuesday. The basketball hopeful was shot while walking home from a July 4 party. College basketball scouts were pursuing the talented player and his dream and life were cut short in a second.

The teen attempted to escape the drugs and violence in his neighborhood by relocating to York, PA but just moved back to the Owings Mills area for the summer. He was enrolled in Mount Carmel and was a star basketball player. Crowder’s cousin, who looked after the teen, plans to start the John Crowder Foundation to help troubled kids escape a life of crime and violence.
