Officer Gahiji A. Tshamba, charged with the shooting death of former Marine Tyrone Brown, turned himself into authorities this weekend. An arrest warrant was issued Friday. The officer is expected to appear in court today. He is charged with first-degree murder and first-and second-degree assault and using a firearm in commission of a crime of violence.

Tshamba’s whereabouts were unknown to his family, friends and authorities. He failed to turn on his cell and communicate with family and friends for over 24 hours. The officer turned himself in quietly by going to central booking and waited for his attorney to meet him. Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told a WJZ-TV reporter that he did not know what led Tshamba to turn himself in. But “we’re grateful for that, and he did the right thing.” The officer is being held with no bail.
