Thousands of Radio One listeners came out in support of petitioning against Senate Bill 379, which could kill Black radio. 92Q, Magic 95.9, WOLB 1010AM, and Spirit 1400 set up shop at locations around Baltimore yesterday to educate listeners and to get the word out. Signers of the petition were outraged over the idea of not being able to listen to their favorite music over the airwaves. Many listeners were unaware of the bill.

“They are trying to legislate everything nowadays. The more we vote, the more our rights get taken away,” shouted an unhappy listener.

Al Payne, Programming Director for Radio One Baltimore, warned that the petition needs to contain 20,000 signatures by May 15 to contest the bill. “We intend to hit the streets several times between now and the deadline until we get all the signatures needed to get rid of this bill. You can also sign the bill online. If this bill passes, it could place an unnecessary hardship on the already burdened bottom line of our industry,” warned Payne.

For announcements of future dates for your chance to sign the petition to save Black radio, stay tuned.
