Reggie Bush is expected to lose his Heisman Trophy by the end of September.

Bush would become the first player in the 75-year history of the award to have the trophy taken away. The NCAA found major violations in the Trojans’ football program in June and levied serious sanctions against the school.Two sources close to the Heisman trust said the body’s investigation is coming to a close, and will ultimately concur with the NCAA’s determination that Bush was ineligible during his Heisman-winning season in 2005. Because of that independent conclusion, sources said the trust will relieve Bush of the award and leave the honor for that season vacant. The sources said Bush met with Heisman representatives last month at the New York law offices of Emmet, Marvin & Martin. The sources would not reveal details of that meeting.

he Heisman trust has been conducting its own independent inquiry into Bush’s eligibility since the NCAA ruled in June that the USC star had committed multiple violations by accepting cash, gifts and other impermissible benefits while playing for the Trojans. Yahoo! Sports first detailed the extra benefits in September 2006. In its findings, the NCAA retroactively ruled Bush ineligible for part of the 2004 season and all of 2005. The NCAA also ordered the USC program to remove all references to Bush from its sporting venues and promotional materials and vacate his statistics from all games in which he was ineligible.

According to the Washington Post Lloyds of London has written an insurance policy for Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamalu’s hair.

Polamalu, who missed 11 games last season due to injury, has not cut his hair in over ten years in tribute to his Samoan ancestors. The Samson like tresses have earned him a product endorsement for Head and Shoulders shampoo, whose parent company felt it was necessary to safeguard their investment to the tune of $1 Million.

“They’ve created the first ever insurance policy to protect his iconic mane for the entire NFL season,” Procter & Gamble said in a statement.

Lil’ Wayne’s love of sports doesn’t stop at basketball and football.

The rapper is an avid tennis fan as well.

Sports Illustrated recently sent Weezy a letter asking the incarcerated rapper to weigh in on the upcoming US Open, and the rapper was surprisingly knowledgeable about the sport!

I genuinely appreciate this opportunity to express my love for tennis.  One of the main reasons I enjoy the sport so much is because when I actually tried to play, it was unbelievably difficult.  So ever since, I’ve been drawn to the great talents of the game.  Not to mention Andre Agassi was like a pop star when I was a kid.  I love the Williams sisters. I simply adore Maria Sharadova and I’m a huge [Rafael] Nadal fan!  I’m definitely rooting for him to get the Grand slam and win the US Open.  He’s already became [sic] the 2nd youngest player to win 8 major titles before the age of 25.  He’s halfway there to Roger [Federer's] 16. And even while battling knee tendonitis, he’s still ranked #1.  His Wimbledon performance was one of a kind.  He simply plays with pure passion and leaves it all out there on the court.  With [Juan Martín] Del Potro pulling out of this years Open with injury, Nadal’s only threats are obviously Federer, Djokovic, and Roddick’s aggressive play, but the player that scares me the most is Andy Murray who’s beaten Rafael four times.  Even still I say “Nadal wins it all.”

And by the way, I’m giving the edge to [Kim] Clijsters in the Women’s singles due to Serena’s right foot. Again, I’m very thankful for this opportunity.

LeBron James hasn’t played one game for the Miami Heat but he won’t rule out playing for his old team the Cavaliers one day.

After making his decision to leave the Cavs to play for The Heat the team’s owner Dan Gilbert posted a hateful letter on the Cav’s website calling James a traitor. In an interview with GQ magazine LeBron responds to the letter stating that the comments have given him “motivation” for the first time the Heat play the Cavs this season.

James said of Gilbert’s late-night letter: “I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: ‘You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You’ll get a good sense of their character.’ Me and my family have seen the character of that man.”

However, he hasn’t ruled out returning to Cleveland later in his career despite the hard feelings expressed by the fans and the owner.

“If there was an opportunity for me to return [to Cleveland] … and those fans welcome me back, that’d be a great story,” he says.

James returns to Cleveland to play  his old team for the first time on December 2 and plays the Cavs three more times on December 15th, January 31st and March 29th.

German singer Nadja Benaissa was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a man who contracted H.I.V. after having unprotected sex with her admitted in court on Monday that she had concealed the fact that she was infected with the virus from the man, and from two other sexual partners.

Nadja Benaissa, a 28-year-old member of the girl group No Angels, was arrested last year before a concert in Frankfurt and held for 10 days. She now faces up to 10 years in prison if she is found guilty of violating Germany’s law against intentional or negligent transmission of H.I.V.

On Wednesday, Schlessinger, commonly referred to as Dr. Laura, received a call from an African American woman who was married to a white man, and needed advice on how to handle racial comments aimed at her from her husband’s friends. Although the woman, named Jade, felt that some of their comments as well as the use of the N-word were racist, Dr. Laura disagreed.

“Black guys use [the N-word] all the time,” she responded. “Turn on HBO, listen to a black comic, and all you hear is nigger, nigger, nigger…I don’t get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it’s a horrible thing; but when black people say it, it’s affectionate. It’s very confusing.”

After a short break, Dr. Laura and the caller argued back and forth. The caller expressed that Schlessinger’s use of the word was unacceptable, and again, Schlessinger disagreed, continuing to use the word 11 times in her show.

“If you’re that hypersensitive about color and don’t have a sense of humor,” Schlessinger said, “then don’t marry out of your race.”

Al Sharpton went on CNN’s “AC 360″ denouncing the talk show host’s statements. “She said the word over and over, and in a very animated way, I might add, but that she actually, if you listen carefully to the logic of what she was saying was that the N-word was not offensive.”

Dr. Laura apologized for her comments the next day. “I talk ever day about doing the right thing. And yesterday, I did the wrong thing,” she said on her radio show last Wednesday.

Our favorite American Idol Fantasia Barrino has been in the headlines for the past 72 hours due to an overdose over a sex scandal with a married man. Her reps are saying that the singer was overwhelmed by the issue within her personal life and the release of her album, Back To Me , that was scheduled to hit stores August 10. The release date has been pushed back. Ironically Fantasia took an excessive amount of sleeping pills and aspirin on the same day as the scheduled release. I ask that you continue to keep Fantasia in your prayers at this difficult time and look out for her album, Back To Me, scheduled to be released Aug 24. WE LOVE YOU GIRL!

During my interview with Fantasia just over a month ago, we shared an emotional moment and I know her spirit. I know that Fantasia is strong and has overcome adversity in the past. This is yet another stumbling block in the road but she will bounce back. Mark my words on that one. Fantasia has a beautiful daughter who breathes life into her each and every day. Sooner than we know it Fantasia will “be back” as she mentioned in my interview with her just over a month ago. I would rather focus on my more joyous interactions with Fantasia so check out this interview on July 8 when tears were flowing in the studio, in a good way.

As Tone, one half of the Trackmasters production duo (along with Jean “Poke” Olivier) he produced platinum albums for Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and 50 Cent. As “Red Hot Lover Tone” the rapper he earned hip-hop quotables in The Source magazine and recorded songs with Chubb Rock and Grand Puba. But his greatest personal achievement might be running a youth football program.

Since its inception in 2002 Barne’s youth football club has become a feeder system for H.S talent and is regarded as one of the best programs in the city. His Staten Island Hurricanes have clinched five national championships in the American Youth Football league and sent many players on to college and to play ball overseas.

“I never intended on doing more than this 8-year-old group,” Barnes told The New York Daily News. “That was the original intention. but when we put up flyers, 60 kids showed up. I had no idea we were filling a void.”

Personal tragedy almost ended this dream before it started. In 2003 Barne’s wife and children, just 7 and 9 at the time, were robbed at gunpoint in their Staten Island home. Though most of the $100,000 in jewelry was returned his wife wanted to move. The family relocated to New Jersey but that left the fledgling football program in jeopardy.

“Family members and friends thought the program would fold, ” said Barnes. “But I said, ‘No, this is the reason I’m involved in a program like this. The more kids I influence now, the less that will do nonsense like what was done to my family.”

The new season of HBO’s Hard Knocks featuring the New York Jets, which premieres next Wednesday, just got a whole lot less interesting. That’s because Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis is officially holding himself out of training camp to try and force the J-E-T-S (Jets! Jets! Jets!) to give him a long-term contract that’ll make him the highest-paid CB in the NFL.

It doesn’t look like the Jetties are gonna budge anytime soon, either, which could result in a loooong contract holdout for Revis and possibly put his chances of playing at the start of the NFL’s regular season in jeopardy. By doing that, he’d put himself in the company of some other notable players who used contract holdouts to try and get paid. Check out these 11 former and current players who held out of all team activities in order to get their NFL teams in order to get their teams to cut a better check. Cha-ching!

Bo Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Bo knows holdouts. Though he spent his playing career running the field for the Los Angeles Raiders, he was actually drafted by the Buccaneers in the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft but refused to accept the team’s contract offer. Instead, he went to Kansas City to play baseball for the Royals. As a result, he was selected again by the Raiders in the 1987 draft–in the seventh round!–and was a Pro Bowl running back for the team by 1990.

The present-day stars were joined by some retired legends, including Bill Russell and Magic Johnson. College player Maya Moore of the Connecticut Huskies women’s team also played.

The game was played for a group of ”wounded warriors” — troops injured in action — and participants in the White House’s mentoring program. It took place at a gym inside Washington’s Fort McNair, a short drive from the White House. The president was inside the gym for about two hours.

The reporters assigned to keep tabs on the president were shut out of the gym, forced to wait in vans outside. Asked why media coverage was blocked, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama ”just wanted to play.”

After the game some of the players joined Obama and a group of his friends for a barbecue at the White House, capping the president’s 49th birthday week.
