In Germany, a gunman opened fire and took 25 hostages in a movie theater. Police later shot and killed the masked gunman.

According to USA Today, special forces had “fought and killed” the man, who had been visibly confused and had fired at least four shots inside the cinema with a rifle. He barricaded himself and the moviegoers in the Viernheim theater before the police came in and killed him.

One witness told the news that he thought it was a joke at first.

“It’s often that filmgoers dress up to match the film,” Guri Blakaj, 21, told German broadcaster, N-TV.  But after he took a gun out and forced employees to lie on the ground, Blakaj realized, “this is serious.”

Thankfully, no one was injured other than the gunman.

Another day, another example that our lives and dignity are not respected.

A Texas grand jury has decided not to indict McKinney Police Officer Eric Casebolt for attacking a Black teenager at a pool party last June. According to the Huffington Post, after police responded to disturbance calls at Craig Ranch North Community Pool, Casebolt yanked 15-year-old Dajerria Becton to the ground and pulled his gun on two other teens. The attack was caught on a cell phone and instantly went viral.

“The Casebolt news is not surprising,” said Kim T. Cole, the attorney representing Becton’s family. “We are currently in a day and time where the very people who are sworn to enforce the law are not held to uphold the law — and that has got to change.”

Casebolt was put on leave when the video went viral and then later resigned.

In “why can’t the Republicans let Black folks live” news, Rep. Steve King’s tried to block Harriet Tubman, from replacing former President Andrew Jackson on the $20, and thankfully was stopped in his tracks.

NBC News wrote that the House Rules committee refused to consider the Iowa Republican’s proposed amendment to keep Tubman off the $20.

King claims that his opposition is not about the iconic freedom fighter, but about tradition.

“It’s not about Harriet Tubman, it’s about keeping the picture on the $20,” King said on Tuesday evening, according to Politico. He pulled a $20 bill from his pocket, pointed at Jackson and added. “Y’know? Why would you want to change that? I am a conservative, I like to keep what we have.”

Boy bye.

Earlier this year, the Treasury Department announced that Tubman will replace Jackson on the $20 on bill in 2020. Thankfully, that’s not changing.
