Idris Elba is a glorious man and though he’s played the tough guy here and there, he by no means comes off as “street.”

But as we know, most people don’t have a problem labeling others or writing them off in the name of tired ass social constructs. The latest to stick his foot in his mouth is 007 author Anthony Horowitz, who thinks Idris “is a bit too street” to play James Bond in the next Bond film.

From THR:

In an interview with British tabloid The Daily Mailthe author said he thought Elba was “a bit too rough” to play the part, although he asserted that it wasn’t “a color issue.”

“I think he is probably a bit too street for Bond,” he said. “Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

“Bond is weak in it. He has doubts. That’s not Bond,” Horowitz said. “Secondly, the villain wins. The villain sets out to kill M. The film finishes with the villain killing M. So why have I watched it?“

It sounds like he wanted to say “too Black” because, Idris… “too street?” Bish, where? Even if that was the case, isn’t acting all about giving people a chance to step outside of themselves?

Horowitz has since apologized for his offensive remarks, and he seems sincere enough. He released the following statement via Twitter:
