White House Google Maps gif

Source: Google Maps / gif

A few days ago racist location names took the internet by storm, and our beloved Google was at the center of the conspiracy.  Users of Google Maps, could simply type in N-word House or N-word University and it would direct you to the White House and Howard University.  Crazy stuff right?

Google allegedly apologized for this incident, reports the Washington Times: “Some inappropriate results are surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused,” a Google spokesperson told The Post. “Our teams are working to fix this issue quickly.”

It is still unclear as to whether Google was hit by hackers or if a user found a way to edit the location names.  Google has allegedly banned users from editing location names, but as of now, days later, N*gger House and N*gger University are still on Google Maps…hmmm…
