The 57th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Show

The 2015 Grammys wasn’t so much an awards show as it was a concert punctuated by award presentations, but it wasn’t short on amazing moments.

In terms of wins, the night pretty much belong to Sam Smith, who took home the Grammy for Best New Artist and Best Pop Album with “The Lonely Hour.” During one of his acceptance speeches, he noted how he’d tried everything to fit into the standard of what he thought the music industry wanted him to be. That included efforts to lose weight and change up his sound. When he couldn’t quite fit into that mold, he was left with no other choice than to just be Sam.

“It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and the people started to listen,” he noted before returning to his seat. He wasn’t sitting down for long as he called back up to the stage to accept the Song of the Year award for “Stay With Me.” Perhaps out of options for acceptance speeches, Sam simply said, “I’m having a really, really, really good night.”

The crown jewel of his night was the moment where he won the award for Record of the Year. “Dear Lord, thank you so much,” he said before dishing up a little shade to the man he fell in love with a year ago that inspired his hit single. Sam didn’t name anyone specifically, but he did say, “Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys!”

Producers packed the show so full of performances that there wasn’t much time for acceptance speeches, so Beyoncé kept hers short and sweet when she won the award for Best R&B Performance thanks to “Drunk In Love.” She thanked God (first and foremost), her husband, her daughter and all of her dedicated fans for “riding so hard” for her.

What she didn’t have time to mention is the fact that that the award was her 20th Grammy to date! A milestone like that probably should have gotten a little more time for a speech. On average, artists were getting about 15 seconds to say their thank yous before getting the ominous Wrap-It-Up music. The Beyhive would have stung Grammy producers to death had they tried to play her off.

That’s ok, though! Beyoncé got to be part of the big finale as she took the crowd to church with a soulful performance of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.”

While the Grammys are a celebration of music, there were some socially conscious moments. Prince may not have come out in activist t-shirt to present the award for Album of the Year, but he did give a nod to the continued struggle for racial equality. “Albums. Remember those?” said Prince, who got a standing ovation just for walking out on stage. “Albums still matter. Like books and Black lives, albums still matter.”

And who did not love his side-eye?! Being fantastic is a burden.

Album of the Year went to Beck for “Morning Phase”; but between Prince and Kanye West, his moment was totally eclipsed. What did Kanye do? He trolled Beck by hopping up on stage for just a moment to make it look like he might interrupt his acceptance speech. Just for a second, everyone thought he was running up on stage to say, “BEYONCE HAD THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIIIIIIIME!”

Beyoncé and Jay Z were a little concerned when he stepped up to the stage, and there was visible horror on Hov’s face. Thankfully, Yeezy was just playing around.

As always social media had plenty to say about what was going on at the Grammys, and there was an abundance of shade for Iggy Azalea’s unfortunate hair style.

There was this, too!

There wasn’t exactly a lot of love for Rihanna’s poofy pink Grammy gown, either.

We weren’t going to say anything about that one, but at least she slayed with her performance of “FourFiveSeconds”! Not to mention she had this completely adorable moment with Blue Ivy!

Meanwhile, everyone seemed to get a pretty good giggle about Pharrell‘s open disdain for Taylor Swift or any of her moves. He was not here for any of it and it showed.
