My grandmother has been gone for over 13 years. She was the matriarch of my family and like most families, when the root of the tree dies, all the branches do too.  I miss my grandma so much and one thing I decided to do to remember her this coming Thanksgiving is to make one of my favorite dishes that she used to make. It wasn’t one of her favorite dishes but it was mine. She made a fried corn dish that tasted like nothing I ever had and I want to embrace her spirit doing something she loved; cooking. Grandma Geri threw down in the kitchen. She made an amazing lasagna and her greens were….I can’t even begin to explain it. She didn’t like me in the kitchen with her because I just got in the way. I wish I paid more attention when I was little. My aunt said she remembers the recipe and she’ll show me! SCORE!!!!

Maybe that’s something you should do? It might not mean cooking, but what about playing a card game or taking a drive to a special park; something your loved one used to do that was considered tradition for the holidays. It’s something that will keep their memory alive and warm your heart as well.

Today, folks are more excited about the Thanksgiving Day sales and Black Friday deals, that they forget what tradition and real family time is all about. It’s not about that! It’s about FAMILY!

Do what you want, but I’m going to spend time with my grandma on Thanksgiving.

RIP Grandma Geri! Love you!

My Grandma, Geraldine Charlton
