Congrats to Tamar and Vince on the news they’re expecting their first child! It’s Spring time so lots of people we know will be sharing the news that they’ll be expanding their families for the first time or in addition. Either way, there is a difference between just being pregnant and being a healthy pregnant woman. Remember, you’re no longer living for JUST YOU!

So, if you’re fully committed to carrying this bundle of joy full term, with no complications, you may want to follow these steps:

  1. Examine your eating habits. Your baby gets its nutrition from you and you should try to eat as healthily as possible. Take in an additional 200 to 300 calories a day, increase your fruit, vegetable and whole grains diet.
  2. Take your prenatal vitamin. Your prenatal vitamin helps to make up any deficiencies in your diet and will help your baby to develop properly.
  3. Get exercise. Exercise helps mothers gain the proper amount of weight, keeps mothers healthy and strengthens mothers for the work of labor.
  4. Go to your prenatal appointments.
  5. Drink plenty of water. Water helps flush waste from the body, prevents preterm labor and helps ensure there’s enough amniotic fluid for the developing baby.
