A no braid and dreadlocks ban placed on the students at Hampton University’s business school.

According to ABC News:

“The ban, which began in 2001, has been controversial over the years.

Credle believes the ban has been effective in helping his students land corporate jobs.

“We’ve been very successful. We’ve placed more than 99 percent of the students who have graduated from this school, this program,” said Credle.

“These students choose to be in this program and aspire to be leaders in the business world. We model these students after the top African-Americans in the business world,” said HU spokesperson Naima Ford.

Credle said it’s important for students to look the part when looking for a job, saying:

“I said when was it that cornrows and dreadlocks were a part of African American history?”

Credle added, “I mean Charles Drew didn’t wear, Muhammad Ali didn’t wear it. Martin Luther King didn’t wear it.”

Do you agree or disagree?

La Nette Not at all. How you wear your hair is an expression of yourself and has nothing to do with the intelligence you possess.

Eric Wilson I agree with La Nette.

Angela Mcpherson Koukoui I disagree and I’m in disbelief they are allow to band in reality, our hair texture and our heritage…the movement moving backwards once again!

Vonnie Fatz Long I think that ppl need to stop over reacting to everything. It’s a business school with old rules, a clean shaved and cut man and a women with her hair pulled back or curls is what to most a respectable business person. First understand their reason before making it a racial issue. Damn

Angela Mcpherson Koukoui I’m a business professional with an Afro not sure why my natural hair would be considered being disrespectful .I was not born with curly or straight hair .. A respectable business person would not judge …

Trina Whoelsebutme Selden talk about it^^^

“@kellyljones78: @DreJohnson1 Dre, I agree w/ the ban people will judge u based on ur appearence and dreads/cornrows aren’t professional”

“@Nteligent_Dummy: @DreJohnson1 I see both sides. Its probably the same for caucasians with mohawks & colored hair”

“@mrgray08: @DreJohnson1 I would withdraw from the school! People should be able to express themselves however they feel!”

“@lisha_justme: @DreJohnson1 @92QJamsBmore I believe if u keep them neat n presentable u can b taken seriously n professional”

Kelly Jones‏@kellyljones78 @DreJohnson1 @92QJamsBmore GM Dre, I agree w/ the ban b/c people will judge u based on ur appearence and dreads/cornrows aren’t professional.

Shekella Charity‏@3in3years @DreJohnson1 @92qjamsbmore Disagree, students should be able to wear their hair however they want to. GM

Spence Da King‏@SClassAtItsBest @DreJohnson1 @92qjamsbmore If they keep their dreds/braids up it shouldnt matter.India Arie made a song called”I Am Not My Hair”for a reason

Deidre Bryan I disagree…as long as they are well groomed and neat and there suit aint sagging off their ass…i dont see a problem…ive seen white people with dreadlocks…bad choice to me but to each his own..
