With schools soon to be back in session as a parent I know it’s about that time to gather up some back to school shopping funds to buy supplies. Granted I want my child to have the best of the best when he goes back to school but overspending on items that are not necessary is a waste of my hard earned money. So to all the parents out there who have children headed back to school here are a few tips on how to same a few dollars when going back to school shopping.

  • Shop At Home First: Instead of spending a small fortune on pens, paper, notebooks and other supplies look around your home. Often you still have paper left from last years shopping and that drawer full of pens? Give some to your child instead or re-buying more.

  • Shop Around: Stores all compete for your money and with this in mind every store will offer a different bargain on different items. Keep an eye out for various sales on different items at multiple stores as one may have a better bargain than the others.
  • Only Buy What You Need: There can be temptation to buy frivolous items that you don’t need simply because your child asked for them or they look “cute” or “stylish” but if you really don’t need it save your money.
