I’ll Have Another didn’t seem to have the goods to win the 138th Annual Kentucky Derby.  He was sold as a yearling for only $11,000, ridden by an unknown rookie jockey hardly anyone knew.

“He’s an amazing horse. I kept telling everybody, from the first time I met him, I knew he was the one. I knew he was good,” winning jockey Mario Gutierrez said. ”I said in an interview, even if they allowed me to pick from the whole rest of the field, I would have stayed with him, 100 percent, no doubt about it.”

The excitement was dampened after a body was discovered at Churchill Downs just hours after the Kentucky Derby. The Louisville Metro police in Kentucky are still investigating.

On a lighter note, Mary J. Blige was asked to sing the national anthem to open festivities this year. Many traditional derby-goers were reportedly not happy to welcome the “Queen of Hip Hop/Soul”  at first and felt she wasn’t the right “fit” for the event. She delivered a flawless performance and sported a fiery red out-fit for the derby. Check out the pics of Mary J. and some other krazy derby fashions below!
