Do your friends complain that you’re a control freak? Are you always the LAST to know everything? It might be because you probably ARE A CONTROL FREAK! If you want to keep your friends and probably your loved ones….I’d suggest you take these tips to learn how to be less of a control freak!

Accept the fact that you can’t control others. One of the hardest things to come to terms with is the fact that no matter how much you nag and complain, you can’t change the things that others around you do. You can’t stop your spouse from smoking, unless he’s truly ready to stop. You can’t change your co-workers’ work habits, unless they’re ready. So, focus on yourself and remind yourself that you have no control over the actions of others.

Work on your self-esteem. Most control issues come from a lack of self-esteem. You may worry about your ability to keep your spouse or partner happy, so you try to control her every move as a means to keep her in your life. Not only does this not work, but you may actually lose her in the process. So work on the way that you see yourself. You are worthy of love and attention, so don’t let your internal dialogue get in the way of your happiness.

Step outside the situation. Say your boyfriend doesn’t call to tell you that he’ll be home from work late. You fly off the handle and go into control-freak mode. Stop for a moment and think about why you’re acting the way you are. You might be afraid, or worried that he may leave you. Once you figure out what the real issue is, work on improving your self-esteem or let your partner in on the situation and resolve it together
