Trinidadian-American rapstress, Nicki Minaj celebrates her 29th birthday today!
We were first introduced to the female rap beast on a nation-wide level back in 2008. Between 2008 and 2009 Minaj released three mixtapes that would put her on the map including the XXL recognized, “Beam Me Up Scotty.” In August 2009, Minaj signed with Young Money Cash Money Records and made two featured appearances on the “We Are Young Money Album,” which would later reach certified gold.
In November 2010 Nicki Minaj released her debut album, “Pink Friday”, which as afforded her much sucesss; going platinum one month later. Pink Friday peaked at #1 on the Billboard top 200 and Minaj is the first female artist ever to have seven singles on Billboard 100 at one time. So when Billboard recently named her ‘Rising Star’ of the year no one could contest, Minaj ‘s hustle has paid off. She is also the first female to be entered into the MTV’s Annual Hottest MC’s list.
Nicki Minaj has won over 21 awards since hitting the scene in 2008 and still has six pending; including four Grammy’s. At this years’ BET Hip Hop Awards, Minaj changed the game beating Hip-Hop Moguls, Jay-z, Kanye, and boss Lil Wayne. She won CD of the Year over both “Watch the Throne” and “The Carter IV” and MVP of the Year over Kanye West.
Nicki Minaj deals with critics on her image, talent, and ability to deliever great music, but nontheless the accolades prove the truth.
