Baltimore’s murder rate is the fifth-highest in the country says the FBI.

The city’s rate for robberies in 2009 was 12th worst in the Country, while  Baltimore’s rate for aggravated-assaults was ninth worst.

The other cities that make all three lists are Buffalo, N.Y., Detroit, Oakland, Calif., St. Louis  and Flint, Mich.

There were 238 murders in the City of Baltimore last year, equaling 37  for every 100,000 residents. The worst murder rate belonged to New Orleans, with 51 murders per 100,000 residents.

Baltimore had the nation’s 11th-worst robbery rate last year.

The worst places on those two lists were Cleveland for robberies (827robberies per 100,000 residents).

Baltimore’s burglary rate (1,221 burglaries per 100,000 residents) was No. 193 out of 271 markets.

From 1999 to 2008, Baltimore experienced the third largest reduction in violent crime among the 20 largest U.S. cities.
